Care and Repair Scotland
Many older people are living in accommodation which is in a poor state of repair and which can have a detrimental effect on them and their health. Care and Repair Scotland offer independent advice and assistance for homeowners who would like to repair or improve their homes and thus improve their living conditions.
Owners and private tenants aged over 60 or those with a disability are eligible for assistance from Care and Repair Scotland. Services offered include personal, financial and technical support for those who require assistance in making decisions and organising repairs or improvements to their property.
Care and Repair staff will visit clients in their homes to discuss their situation and will provide advice as well as help with applying for funding and co-ordination of building work and repairs. Staff are experienced in liaising with health, housing and social work staff to ensure that any decisions made are in the best interests of the client.
There are various methods of funding the works available including grants, benefits, equity release, home loans, and charitable funds.
